I've always been fascinated with cameras and photography. My first taste was a Kodak 110 Instamatic, and I was always trying to get it to do things it couldn't. Going on a vacation thinking, "should I take ONE roll of 36 or two". Cost was prohibitive to a 12 yr old. Of course, after I'd get the film developed and printed, I would have maybe half-a-dozen acceptable shots. Fast forward a few decades and the digital age has completely changed my perspective.
Hockey has been in my life since age 5. I literally played until my 40's, and although I was never going to go anywhere, it has always been my first love. Probably the biggest thing I miss the most is the dressing room and camaraderie. I volunteered to shoot some "red carpet events" for the local Junior A team back in 2014, thinking I had a "decent" camera. Since then, it has been a continual progression of knowledge, gear, and always learning. I'm rarely satisfied with my own results, always wanting that better shot and always wanting that "better" lens. But I love all sports. Capturing an athlete in the middle of a skilled move fascinates me. And having someone take joy in that photo, is the ultimate compliment to me.
Currently, I'm shooting with a Canon 7Dmkii and 5Dmkiii with a 70-200 2.8L, 24-70 2.8L, and a Sigma 10-22. My dream kit would be a 1DXmkii and 300 f2.8L.
I'm always trying to expand my photography skill and new genres intrigue me. Most recently, studio lighting and portrait photography. It's a never-ending journey, that I hope to do well into my "grown-up" years. ;)
